The Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase is a Grade 1 steeplechase run over 3 miles and 80 yards, and is the second race on day two of the Cheltenham Festival. Many greats over the years have taken this as the highlight of their novice chasing career before embarking on a quest for the Cheltenham Gold Cup the following season, and a few in Wednesday’s race will be hoping to do the same.

Gerri Colombe is a warm order to stretch his unbeaten record to nine races in a row here, with the ground turning soft further adding to his chances. He will not have everything his own way, however, as The Real Whacker is a worthy foe after a stellar front-running campaign, Sir Gerhard (last year’s Ballymore winner) is intriguing on his first attempt at 3 miles and Thyme Hill also cannot be ruled out due to his classy staying hurdling form.

Most Tipped

Favourite Gerri Colombe is the most tipped selection for this race, although it is not cut and dry. He has been tipped up by seven experts on-site but his main market rival The Real Whacker has six pundits weighing in behind him. Thyme Hill is just behind with five tips, so it is clear that the presspack are split on how they see this race panning out.

In the Naps table Gerri Colombe is selected by four competition entrants as their best bet of the day, including the pundit currently in fifth place Brigadier.

Biggest Priced Tip

Thunder Rock is available to back at as big as 20/1 to claim this prize, and it seems the oddsmakers don’t seem to think he stands much chance of overcoming his higher profile rivals at the top of the market. That has not stopped him being selected as the bet by one brave tipster, our headline big priced tipster RACEOLLY who found a big priced place in Mr Freedom (40/1) on Day One of the Festival.

Olly Murphy’s runner should enjoy the step up in trip here and those plumping for him will hope the stronger test of stamina brings his jumping on.

He has got a bit of the Don Cossack about him (high praise considering that one won the Gold Cup for Gordon Elliott) and we think the fact he has won his races over intermediate trips, which don’t look his optimum, shows his quality.
