The India-Pakistan cricketing ties have witnessed a twist this year as BCCI has rejected the idea of sending Team India to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi is going to address a meeting with Asian Cricket Council members over the matter soon.

Earlier, the PCB chief Najam Sethi had stated that if the Indian team does not come to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023 in September, PCB might not send Pakistan team to India for ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The tournament is going to take place in India in October-November.

We Must Realise BCCI’s Financial Power in World Cricket: Najam Sethi

While speaking in a press conference ahead of the ACC meeting, PCB chief Najam Sethi said that while it is important to see how other ACC members look at Pakistan’s stance on Asia Cup 2023, they must realize BCCI’s financial power in world cricket.

“It’s important to see how other members (of ACC) look at our stance on Asia Cup. What they think is important, but in the end we must realise how much clout the BCCI with its financial power carries in world cricket. I have been in contact with senior members of ACC. I have informed them about our problems and we will try and find honourable solutions to the problems,” Najam Sethi said.

Najam Sethi also said that he has taken the government’s opinions on sending their teams to India or not. He said that after coming back from the ACC meeting, PCB will consult with relevant authorities and take a final decision on whether or not to send Pakistan players to India for World Cup.

“I have held informal consultations and taken the government’s opinion as well and this time we have also taken all legal advice for what stance we can take at these meetings. I will see how the meetings go and then come back and after consulting relevant authorities take a final decision on whether we will send our team to India for the World Cup,” Najam Sethi further said.

Asia Cup 2023 is set to take place in August-September later this year and Pakistan is the host of the tournament. BCCI has disagreed with sending Team India to Pakistan and suggested that Team India’s matches should be hosted in UAE instead of Pakistan.

In response, PCB also reiterated that if BCCI does not send their team to Pakistan for Asia Cup 2023, PCB will not send their team to India for ODI World Cup 2023. In the upcoming week, ICC is also going to schedule its first review meeting of the year and India-Pakistan cricket relations will be one of the agendas during the meeting.
