Last month, legendary NFL quarterback Tom Brady formally and officially announced his retirement from football and he has since doubled down on his decision to walk away from the game. But if Brady does change his mind and choose to return to the NFL, he’s now free to sign with any team he chooses.
On Thursday, Tom Brady officially became a free agent on Wednesday earlier this week at the start of the new league year. And even though he sent a retirement letter to the league and the NFLPA, there is now nothing stopping him from signing with any team in the league, as Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out.
“That retirement letter he sent to the league and the NFL Players Association five weeks ago doesn’t matter. He’s now a free agent. He can sign with any team, at any time. He can talk to any team, at any time,” Florio wrote.
It’s another update in the Brady retirement saga as some refuse to believe that he is actually retired. As a result, the NFL world had plenty to say about the update on Twitter.

Obviously, it seems more and more likely that Brady will stay retired. But by becoming a free agent, he’s now free to negotiate his return if that’s what he chooses.
