Parts of Upstate NY under winter weather alerts as Thankgiving travel starts

Syracuse, N.Y. — Winter weather advisories have been issued for the North Country and Adirondacks as the Thankgiving travel weekend kicks into gear.

The National Weather Service says those drivers in those areas could hit a mix of ice and rain that could make roads slippery.

“Plan on slippery road conditions on untreated surfaces,” the weather service said.

High winds, with gusts up to 40 mph, could also make for difficult driving.

The storm is expected to hit late afternoon Tuesday and last into Wednesday.

For most of Upstate, the storm will bring rain and wind, but little snow and ice.

After the storm moves out early Wednesday, weather for the rest of the travel weekend should be mostly clear. There could be some light snow over the weekend, but mostly in the North Country again.
